brucem
Hey guys, my xeno's have bred and the female has successfully passed the fry over to the dominant male. The pair spawned on the 1 Feb, and the female and male swapped eggs about 4 days ago. I'm wondering when i should strip the male. I have a colony of 7 in a 4x18 with 5 brevis and a pair of meleagris. thanks for you help Bruce
philjo1
Hey Bruce Sorry I can't help you with the question... but congratulations on getting the fry. Cheers Phil
parkesg
Hi Bruce, congrats, you can collect fry anytime now. Once mother has passed they would have heads and tails. I wouldn't think they would need tummbling. I find the spilos pretty skittish when trying to net and if this is their first time, may spit the eggs if you chase them too much. So use a big net with slow movements. All the best, Grant
brucem
Thanks Phil. Thanks for the tips Grant. I think the fish may have come fry you at some stage. I got these from Azfish. Az had a couple of fry from the colony, so it's not their first mouthful. I'll strip him tonight. Fingers crossed. Bruce
brucem
Grant, what do you feed your xeno fry? Without seeing how small they are, I was thinking Biotec powder and crushed flake. Maybe BBS are warranted too. Bruce
parkesg
HI Bruce, They are not a tiny fry like altos prob. 5mm long. I feed newly hatched brine shrimp. Cheers Grant
brucem
Hi Grant, thanks for the advice. I just stripped the male - 23 fry. They are skittish when a net is in the tank. I was only moving the net really slowly, but he knew I was after him and he ended up spitting the fry into the tank. I managed to retrieve them all thankfully.
