joshua
Hi everyone My Texas has pink growths on his fins and on his side. I initially thought it was a battle wound from a tank mate, but after a few days I noticed it was some sort of growth. Here are some pics, does anyone know what it is and how to fix him? Thanks. luohanfan
Hi josh, it looks like this may have started through injury and developed further.. Are the other white spots on the fish in the pic (near the eye and above the fin..) like small pimples or just something floating in the tank? It's possible the fish may have developed an infection .. i would add some salt and melafix to aid in healing the fish.. but this won't clear up a bacterial infection.. some of the other members on here might be able to diagnose better and recommend a treatment.. joshua
Hi Yellow Hi Luohanfan I think that is just stuff floating in the tank that came up on the pic. He has small pink spots on his side and mid way up his side it looks like the scales have been lifted, thats why i thought it was an injury from another fish. One of the smaller pink dots looks similar to ich, but its pink.
yellow
i was in the middle of writing on this and forgot. sorry. its just an infection caused by fighting. you usually get it this time of year when temps are high and the fish is stressedand injured. improve your water quality(get rid of the stuff flaoting in he tank). add melafix, and decide which fish youre going to keep; the texas or the one who gave him those wounds. whoever did that too him wont leave him be; and with wounds like that to begin with, continued harassment will make the infection worse and probably kill him. see his dark colouration, thats not a happy texas. joshua
Thanks Yellow, I will be getting Melafix today. He was just in his breeding colours as he tried to mate with my Hartwegi He ended up killing her. He has just started to get his blue back. I just fed prawn before the pic, so the water was a bit mucky. I am going to do a gravel vac and wc tonight. I think it is my Red Scat chasing him around alot, dont really want to get rid of either of them.
Citypainter
Gday Josh. If you can catch him it would be better to treat it in your smaller tank. Scats can be nasty but they look great.
dobbin4
Jason is right, As citypainter says catch him is better and faster, i've always found a muilti cure far better and faster to cleanup this type of wound. If you can put it on with a cotton bud it will be gone in 3/5 days.Cearfull near mouth/eyes/gills. joshua
Before even adding the Melafix, I noticed that his fin had remarkably improved, and his side was getting better. I added some anyway. He is looking better today, he is even picking on the Acara again, and picking fights with the Jag... I think he likes to biff! pride
I remember a few years back seeing these pink tumour looking things on alot of texas around various places. I remember speaking to Norm at Riverside and he believed they come up when the water temp is always over 26C
joshua
Thats funny, because my water is always over 26C. I cant get it down, I have the heater turned off and have even tried putting heaps of frozen 2ltr coke bottles in the sump, but it still doesn't help! A tumor was my original suspect. But he looks fine now.
dobbin4
If it was a tumor it would not just dissapear in a couple of days, looks like from fighting.Just think on days like these how everyones water temp is inside a house ?. 26 is not a problem. Try checking at 5am your temp if your heater is off.

I will get up early one morning and check, but I think it would be the same due to the large amount of water in the tank. 8x2.5x2.5 Heater has been turned off since November... pride
Just to clarify my post I'm not saying they are a tumour. I should of said pink nodules thingy's. These I remember were common in alot of texas which I distinctly remember which were for sale in a tank in Parramatta. Still I have no clue as to what it is sorry.
