firthy13
my uncle is starting a mbuna display tank he wants to keep 3 different species with good contrasting colours. im pretty sure he has his heart set on yellows for yellow obvioulsy and demasoni for the blue. he cant decide on a third species that would contrast well with yellow and blue. i suggested rusties for there purple and brown. so i thought i would put it to all you guys. what 3 speices of mbuna would you keep together. his tank is 450 liters with black substrate and texas holey rock. KIMO
Demasoni can be really aggressive. For the same colour, you could try M. Mainganos, as both male and females are brightly coloured blue and white. You could then add some Pulu point Zebras which are a bright orange or even some Red top zebras which have a light blue striped body with yellow to bright orange top and tail fins. Since it's a display tank, you might want to stay away from Mbuna species where the females are a dull colour and some have no colour at all. Good luck with the tank. Andrew
Metriaclima hajomaylandi if you like a nice mix of violet and gold... What about Labeotropheus trewavasae or fuelleborni? Both are Mbuna, both have amazing colours with the added bonus of their sexual dichromatism... The tank is probably big enough to not have too many hassles from demasoni or the others... I'd probably steer well clear of larger melanochromis species though. Cheers, Andrew.

These fish were my favourite. Get Males 2 of each so there will be one dominant one that will look fantastic.
