Steatocranus tinanti breeding advice

I picked these up September and have been trying to get them to breed. I picked up 8 from a shop and had 3 do some swan dives out of the tank. So I got another 5 to bring the numbers back up. Some of them were quite small but I have been growing them up and now have quite a few with some decent size. I have a sand substrate and several pots and flat rocks in the tank. Well filtered and aired I just can't get them to breed.

I have several what I believe large females and a couple of males. The rest are a bit to small. Is there any tricks to getting these to breed.

follow these simple rules and you be on your way

- yes they jump, unlike any other fish so a tight lid is required.

- ph 6.5

- only a small flow of water is required (they don't like strong power heads)

- a small narrow pipe is best I've tried many types, and great success with these

- neglect - weekly water changes are not appreciated as you would think

- and finally like any fish patience

Well Christmas came and its looking good. I dropped some bristlenose breeding logs in the tank and now there is a male hanging outside one of the logs. I peered in and saw a female inside. See how it goes now no moving and slow on the water changes now.

yeah leave them, it starts

like this, the male will hang around for a week or two then a female will sit in the cave for another week or two with him then before you know it 50 odd little tinanti bumping around.

UPDATE TIME...

Well went out for feeding time and saw a few little ones swimming around the front of a bristlenose log I put in. The female had been in there and the male was around the front for a few weeks like you said. I put in two logs in and another female was in the other one and another male hanging out. He has moved now but the female hasn't so hopefully might have some more swimming around.

Thanks for the info guys these guys took ages to finally get around to it and now its worked.

Done well now... These were my hardest fish to breed still waiting on my three colonies of bristlenose to breed. Fingers crossed...
