Common Names

I've been trying to get my LFS to order some of these for me but he wants a common name as his catalogue only provides common names.

I've found a few internet references the most likely common name appears to be the 'tanganyika clown' (From fishbase.org).

I know some forumers have ordered them from bayfish before (I can't find the post where I asked someone where they got them from) and want to clarify if this is the correct common name?

The LFS bloke said he had something by the name of a 'speckled goby' for about ~$100 but I can only find references to marine fish?

Thanks.

MM

The few times i've ordered them it's only ever been under "Eretmodus Cyanostictus" with the varient added. I've never heard any other names besides goby. Shop around they are listed as eretmodus cyanostictus. And unless its a wild fish, $100 is way too much. I would expect $30 - $50 for f1.

These guys dont really have a common name. Goby's would be the closest thing but that covers so many different fish.

If he cant order them from their Latin name, then I would be buying them. Keep your eyes open in the classifieds they do come up from time to time.

Bayfish would have them listed under their latin name.

I was just talking to another LFS, and no one out here (130km radius of where I live) seems to be supplied by Bay Fish (Who, from what I can gather are the ones that list in latin). So who is the other supplier?

They didn't give any reason why, other than distance from Brisbane or Melbourne.

Last year I was quoted $130ea for them from a LFS (sourced from Bayfish). I have a fair idea there is a considerable markup there though, due to the country location. There are people on this forum breeding them, but willingness to ship may be a problem.

I got 14 4cm German f1 a couple of months ago and paid about $60 each. Should have another buch shortly. I'll pm you when there ready.

I've seen these referred to on some websites as the Tanganyikan Clown. Maybe the lfs guy will know them by this name

No, I did try under that name, thanks anyway. Looks like none of the LFS out here can get them from their current supplier.

I'll just have to wait patiently for benfarrows pm :) .

In the meantime, I'm still half way through building a stand and hood for my new 6ft tank.
