Recently i returned a a hydor prime 30 canister , thaught it was faulty cos me and somone this forum baught it off me it and it didnt work on neither of ours so thought it was faulty, anyways returned it back and got a new motorhead was going to sell it with out testing it cos didnt need it but decided to test it cos got bored, and its not pumping or anything has anyone got expereince with these filters? or is it the unlikey chance i got another busted one,

Ive filled the canister with water prior to turning it on, sucked on the outlet, tipped the canister upside down, to get rid of the air but still not working

sometimes their just hard to prime...funny cos the name and instructions say its self priming but my prime 10 doesnt. Sometime filling the canister halfway then jamming the plug in the priming hole quickly does it for me.

Other than that i have one thats been running for 10years now i think.

Damn that really is bad luck.

I thought this brand was reliable due to the price.

I was going to offer you a price for it aswell.

Yeah lucky i did test it, cos was going to sell it unopened but it did the same thing as before and was driving me nuts, the shop said there has been issues with these units

anways ill be getting new goods so all is good

Yeah think there must have been a bad batch or something, the only time it does work is when the inlet is right at the bottom and its siphoninh not pumping but siphoning, then put the tubesback up onto the tank height and the water gets stuck half way in the tubes and just makes grrrr noise,

Yeah they're a bit hit an miss but great filters i don't touch my tank with this for months at a time.

Funny enough i brought my last tank with the prime 10 to my new house yesterday set the tank back up and bingo she self primed for the first time!

Oh and the title of ur ad on petlink says Prime 20 :)

I got given an old one a while ago.

Had the same problems you are describing. Air is getting into you "closed" system.

Eventually put some vaseline on the big ring to help seal it.

Check the seals on the inside of the inlet & outlet connections.

Seems to work better with a 3-4' lift rather than a lower height.

Why do Hydor need so much detail to get a copy of the handbook online??

(Great great grandmothers maiden name, bank Account & PN etc.)

Thanks for the tip but exchanging them for something else, and mine was different it works better on lower height, but on normal tank height nothing
