Foti
hello i was just wondering i have had a sacom 2000 marathon its craP i know but im still going to run it and i need to fill it with some thing ? the guy who i got it off had told me that all he put in it was wool but i know that just that would be good to buff the water keeping it cristal but was wondering should it have bio balls or ceramic noodles ? the tank is 6ft i have a wet n dry eheim full of eheim substrat should that have noodles and spunge on bottom bucket? second-nature whisper power filter i think runs at 1200l/h dont know muck more is currently running but should i put some ativated carbon on the bottom of it ?? a power head that runs at 2300l/hr this power head has 2 atachments sections and i also was wondering is this to provent debre from entering the impella ?? should i just put substrat in the first part which is the bottom part but leave the spunge in the section closest to the impella thus controling the bacteria and alowing me not to use the wet and dry for the 6ft n putting it back on my 3ft ?? i also want to put that geni clear ? aqua geni? filter in my rock formations is that bad ? or over kill i just dont want to have to take appart the tank every 3 months ??? please need help as you can see if anyone can kick me in the right direction i would much appreciate it sorry about the long post lots of thanks foti
warbyd
Foti, Personally I would go for mechanical & biological filtration media in the canister (so a coarse sponge, followed by ceramic noodles or other bio media, followed by wool or something along these lines), same sort of mix for the wet/dry (mechanical & biological, although I've never had one of these filters so consult the manual [available online if you google] for the recommended media), and just sponge or filter wool in the whisper & powerhead to do a bit of water polishing.. If you want to swap one of the filters from the 6' to the 3', I would keep the eheim on the 6' (depending on this particular filter's capacity obviously) simply because it's going to be dealing with a higher bioload (I presume) and as such you're going to want the better filter on here.. If the filtration is sufficient, you aren't overfeeding, waterflow is good, etc you should never have to pull the tank apart, let alone every 3 months. All that is required is regular gravel cleaning with an occasional shifting of any rocks/ornaments to give underneath them a good gravel vac to pick up any waste that's found its way under there.. That's my thoughts anyway, hope it helps -Dave
Foti
Dave thank you so much perfect but if i had substrat in the power head would it do anything ????
warbyd
Yeah it will function just the same as if it were placed in any other filter, it will provide some mechanical filtration and provide surface area for bacterial growth.. if you've got it sitting around chuck it in there if you like, but dont go rushing out to buy it just for the powerhead -Dave
