Hi Ben

I think I have one of these guys too or similar. I bought it about 10 months ago at a local LFS advertised as Lombardoi. It was around 3cm when I bought it and looked like a lombardoi. Brief description = Body was light purplish colour and a darker purple stripes but over time a tinge of a thin yellow highlight colour started to appear over the body. I don’t know much about these guys but I suspect a crossbreed??

cheers

I'm guessing that the blueish ones are actually from the same batch as the brown ones? There appears to be an intermediatory fish in picture #2 middle left hand side.

However for the purposes of answering your question my take on their ID is this;

- Number 1's are a Blue dolphin (Cyrtocara moorii) x a Peacock (Auloncara sp.) The line from the eye to the nose is a give away for a blue dolphin as is the slightly beaked shape nose. I'm putting my money on them being crossed with a peacock based on the fish in picture 2 at the top that displays more typical peacock body shape and barring.

- Number 2's are a hongi (Labidochromis hongi) x something?? The black bar between the eyes going across the bridge of the nose is something only seen in hongis from my experiance and in ALL hongi x's I have seen this has always been a dominant trait passed on.

Definantely no afra in #2, nor do I believe there is any lombardoi in them. Wrong body shape for both.

Thanks for the input guys.

My thoughts where

1 = Electra (I have not kept them so not an expert on how they should look at this size)

2 = hongi x rusty

3 = not a clue :lol2:

No Idea what the others are but I'm 99% sure that #1 has blue dolphin in it.

They look strikingly similar to some "blue dolphins" I once had but died when I started having water quality issues.
