Nitrite levels in a cycling tank

Hi guys, I know this is probably a repeated question that gets asked but starting to wonder about my 215L tank that I'm cycling so I can start stocking with some nice cichlids. The tank has been cycling with 4 comets about 6cm long for 4 weeks now and I still have very significant levels of nitirite........1 to 1.6 from what I can tell using my kits. This is the first tank I've fully cycled prior to stocking as all my previous tanks were done with fish to kick start them. I have been using the liquid bio startup solutions from my lfs (sorry no idea what the brand was), you add 50ml to the tank once a week. So far its cost about $60 in these things which isnt big in the overall scheme of things but more than I wanted to spend for what has been a very poor result imo. I have been doing 25% water changes weekly and did an extra one to set up my new 2 footish shell dweller tank, also gave 1 of the comets a new home and put in 2 nice sized chunks rock from the 215L tank as a starter rather than use the liquids. The small tank has only been running for 2 days so not expecting anything from that one for a while :-) .

Am i doing things right? Should I stop using the liquid starters and just wait and see? Pretty sure I've done things right so far even though the starters could have been left out and probably been at the same stage with the cycling but just not 100% sure so any input appreciated.

just be patient and don't do any water changes as this will slow the process. my tank took just over 6 weeks to cycly properly. The higher nitrite levels are a good sign as it means you are nearing the peak.

cheers
