i was just saying in another post that alot of the mbuna that used to be common place are now becoming much harder to find. i predict that in a few years time many will be lost for good as many of the people that used to keep them make the shift towards keeping L's and the like. i also predict that in a few years time L's will be cheap as hell and so common place that most people that breed to afford the hobby will try and shift back to keeping bread and butter africans but unfortunately they just wont be there. if you dont ebleive me look at most forums, fs african posts are in decline but L002,L201, L333,L066 posts are abundant.

just my two cents.

the reason i was asking too was because i have them and was just curious to see if anyone else has them. i hoping they dont because then ill finally be rich, and im talking oprah rich :lol3:

Hopefully we can keep importing Mbuna in the future, even if it has to be from Germany (or eeek, Asia).

From what I understand, Malawi's customs organisation (if you could call it that), isn't listed by Australian Quarantine services as a "Compentent Authority", therefore making it virtually impossible for Australians to import Wild Caught of anything directly from Lake Malawi.

However it is still possible to import Malawi cichlids form Germany and elsewhere, and German specimens are usually acknowledged the best around. A quick search on the net found F1 labidochromis friebergi on a UK website classifieds, so we can still access fish like these if someone is willing to go to the effort.

People will rediscover Mbuna again, and from what I see at auctions and other forums they're still popular with fishkeepers and always will be (even if not with fish breeders in various cycles, looking for the next money maker).

So not all is lost! :lol2:
