curviceps
Hi there, my sand substrate (pool filter sand) is turning green. The tank is in the living room, which unfortunately has too much light from the outside (but the light is diffused through screens). I suspect it is algae, but what type? Short of relocating the tank, how can I reduce or prevent this from occuring again (after I change some of the sand)? Increase circulation? Will a UV steriliser help? Please see picture below: Thanks!
marrick2204
I had that problem years ago. To fix it, just put a few bristlenose cf in tank. This will take them a few days to a week to remove the algae from your tank cheers

robfishfan
check you dont have your lights on for more than 6 to eight hours in the tank , and if near a window block natural light , direct sun light will grow lots of algae , even a very bright room with mornig or afternoon sun and no lights in the tank will grow algae , you can put a blanket on the tank for a week to help kill off the algae.
