Nazim
Do red devils have brown/gray vertical stripes along the full length of their bodies? I visited a petshop in Orange yesterday and saw this gorgeous (approx 5cm) cichlid swimming alongside a large number of similar sized cichlids. I'm looking for tankmates for my duboisis and as it wasn't a cichlid I could readily identify (not that I'm an expert) so I asked the staff for an identification. They referred me to one of their more knowledgable colleagues, but she didn't look too confident to me when she proclaimed it to be a red devil. I must confess the thought did cross my own mind for a fraction of a second based on body type, but the colours were not at all what I expected. Upon my return home I did a google image search of red devils and couldn't find a single one resembling the one I saw. The bars on it were solid and did not have any breaks in the middle of them or spots such as the ones you see on keyhole cichlids etc. I wish I had got a photo to show you all. Any ideas? YAL05T
No reason it couldnt be a devil. they do come in various colours as juvies, and the number of them with mixed bloodlines is crazy (other species genetics I mean). Have a look at some that are being caught out of hazelwood pondage in Victoria.

I dunno what is going on around here. Most of the LFS in this area seem to have developed a terrible habit of just mixing all their cichlids together. A number of LFS have tanks full of Americans, Africans, Peacocks, Hybrids, Predators and Prey all bunched in together. Add to this the fact that most staff only know the price of the fish in the mixed tank and not their identity means uninformed buyers will end up with a lot of dead fish.
