jay_g_hunter
Hi Ill be adding some more fish to my new tank in about a weeks time, and also need to add some more rocks. How should i wash the new rockery and should i add the rocks and fish at the same time or leave a gap between the rock/fish adding? Ill try and add some photos of my setup as im going to add the same style rocks again... Not sure what you actually call these rocks...the middle ones are limestone obviously but the ones either side im not sure of the name...its kind of a lava style rock i think..? mcloughlin2
Its better to add the rocks prior to fish purely because aquascaping is alot easier and if your adding limestone (Which has buffering capacities) the pH can fluctuate without stressing fish. bdo.
I just put a whole heap of rocks in my tank. Last time I think I went a bit over board and boiled and baked some of the rocks haha but this time I just gave them a good scrub under some running water. I then gave it a couple of days before I put the fish in to let some of the sediment filter through, especially as some of the rocks were sandstone. Im not sure how these affect the pH though, but the fish all seem to have settled in happily. From what you said I take it there are already some fish in your tank? domross
Where did you source your lava rock from? I'm currently using bush rock I got from the local area, I boiled and srcubbed them quite vigerously and had no leeching or negative effects. I'm looking to scrap the bushrock now though as they dull brown doesn't contrast as nicely with the fish. White sand and black lava rock would be ideal! Plus I don't think my bushrock arrangements allow for enough caves and hidey-holes; if I was to restack it might be better but its still not like rocks that have tunnels through them already.
