Ive just set up my tank, and im a first timer...

I have...

2 x Cobalts

2 x Electric Yellows

1 x Bristlenose

The cycle has just started so it will be a couple of weeks before i add anymore to the collection... Im really loving the look of Tropheus duboisi and was wondering if they would be a suitable addition, or is this not advised...? Also i like the Blue moorii, can all these be kept together or, again, is this a mismatch? Its a 4ft tank with an aqua-one 1000 filter, with an external clip-on box as well, Oh and one more thing, how many more "cleaning crew" should i be looking at? Ive been feeding HBH veggie flakes and i have some frozen blood worms leftover from my now deceased siamese fighter :( , which i might use as weekly treat... As i said, im new to fishkeeping full-stop so all advice is greatly appreciated, but so far im loving cichlids, have been reading up heaps and am a regular reader of all the threads that come through on ACE, and again, all support is valuable!!

Thanks in advance!!

G'day JG,

Throw the blood worms in the garbage - they can kill africans - hooks on the worms' body can get caught up in the fish's bowels. You might get away with using blood worms as a treat - but is it worth it?

Ideally, Tropheus require a different diet and water conditions to Malawians. A Duboisi or two may survive in your tank but they wouldn't be totally happy with Malawi water conditions.

Another three or four Bristlenose would'nt be a problem at all.

Moorii, Electric blues, mainganos, Pulu Points, Aceii, any Malawians around the same size will generally be fine together. You could try 12 fish (plus 4 Bristlenose) and see where you go from there.

Cheers,

Lee.

Hey mate!

I reckon grab some brine shrimp as a treat rather than the blood worms, pretty sure thats alright for their digestion, but I may stand corrected?

I've got a 4 footer too and thus far have a maingano, domasoni, lombardoi, afra cobwe, electric blue and have just added a tropheops chilumba and a pair of tropheus moliro. Although some types will typically clash, my guys all seem to get on fine, despite the expected chases, just make sure you give them plenty of hiding places. As Lee mentioned the water conditions may not be completely ideal for the moliro, but they look pretty damn happy at the moment.

Do your research before you add a new type of fish, but dont listen to everything you read. I'm still learning myself but have found the only way to truly discover it all is to have a go for yourself, just be careful in the process.

Goodluck!
