Rayzorback
Hey Dude, I had a good pair of Rivs a few years back. They never locked jawed..................until after 2nd or 3rd spawn. They were guarding the eggs to start with and then they started jaw locking a day later. I dont know why. The other fish swam in and picked the eggs off whilst the Rivs kept jaw locking. The other fish I had were rainbows and bristlenose. After the spawn was gone the male was always aggressive to the female and she started hiding all the time. They did spawn another 2 times, both having the jaw locking behaviour. Thats my personal experience with them anyway. Hope someone can help explain WHY the Rivs jaw lock. rowie
in my experience breeding terrors severums and devils the fish will lock lips before breeding this is a way to make sure there possible breeding partner is strong enough to carry on the species if you find one of them is severly beat up put it in its own tank or divide the tank so you can heal and fatten up the weaker of the 2 usually within a day or 2 of a water change they will display this behavior and breed around 2-3 days later hope this helps cheers stuart

Pik0
Yeah I just saw this happening today and was going to post up about it. Though with me its the 2 females locking jaws and the male just stays in his cave. Would this be the same thing? Cheers
