Bonjour
Sorry about the bad photo, hard to get this fella without him skootin all around my tank. Need an ID please! Was told my a few shop owners that he's probably just another variance of a venustus, but any certain match would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. mcloughlin2
Definantely a P. lombardoi. I'd take a guess and say its a male judging by the off blue colour.
Bonjour
Thanks a bunch guys. So Im going to assume I have a female Pseudotropheus lombardoi with a real bad colour? I'll check the water when I get home.
mcloughlin2
No not bad colour. The fish could be a male in the process of colour changing or its a female that was just stressed or even just a poor coloured photo.
Cichlid_KB
the females tend to lose the nice blue colour with age and go to a drab blue or browny yellow KB
Bonjour
This is only tiny, about 2 inches so its still quite young. Will see how he/she develops!

Bonjour
I bought it when it was probably more whitish, slight lilac and since has turned a slight lilac colour with a tinge of blue through the face and has been this way for about a month or two. cobaltcraig
I am a little confused now Lombardoi all fry start out blue with blue bars Females will stay that colour and males will turn yellow with brown bars I said Crimson tide in a earlier post due to the barring looking blackish not brown and very pernounced However Lilac is a purple and I am not sure of either fry having purple in it The shop that sold you the fish Said it was some kind of new Venustus I am not aware of that either If you have any further info it would help Cheers Craig
Bonjour
The bars are definitely black, not brown... his belly is white which blends into a very light lilac up the top, which is hard to see in this photo, will try and get some more snaps tonight I asked different pet shop from where I bought it from and the bloke knows his stuff, he has been doing it for years and he said its like a variance of venustus (he had some in his store)... not sure what to think, because I had a venustus and he looks completely different. He is basically the same shape as them lombardoi, just different colours.

Bonjour
Well obviously not, maybe he thought I was pointing to another fish... Would love an ID on this fella! Otherwise I'm going to go with retarded shemale venustus lombardoi
mcloughlin2
Hi mate, It's definantely a P. Lombardoi. Usually i wouldn't be so confident with an ID over the internet but there is no way it is a variant of a venustus (Wrong shape and I'm sure there is only the one type of venetus - green mottled pattern at that size) and it is the wrong shape and colour for crimson tides.
