jpa
hi all, i have a 6 x2 x 2 with mini reef system running on ocean runner 6500 LPH. my Submersible Pump Filter just broke down and tried everything to make it work again but no luck. just wondering how long / hours would it be ok for all my fish to survive without a filter? and how much would a brand new pump cost in LFS? at the moment i have two air stones and i have at least 45 cichlids in the tank. any advice / help would be appreciated. Cheers, Paul
akroyd
Hi, With air stones in the tank, the fish will live indefinitely. You should reduce feeding, increase water changing, and monitor ammonia and nitrite. HTH
AzFish
Hi Paul, akroyd is correct in saying the fish will live ok without the filter, however, the bacteria in your filter will not. From memory its a few hours until the bacteria starts to die off. So once you start your pump up again, you are going to put into the tank alot of the dead bacteria, which could cause an ammonia spike. So as a precautionary measure, I would put an airstone into the sump, do some frequent water changes daily until the pump is replaced. I would also try and use water from other tanks to do the WC's on the tank that is not running. Last thing I would get is some bacteria additive, like seachem stability or aqua pics bacteria thingo and add that once the tank is up and running again. YAL05T
Try AoA in the sponsors for a pump, I have got some from there and they were priced great and arrived fast. Hope all goes well for you.
