dysfctn
I've recently moved and am yet to setup my tank again (my fish are in plastic tubs with canisters attached). Was applying my background tonight, and noticed there are chips in the bottom plate of glass! I'm guessing I probably shouldn't be risking it, right? What do you guys think? See the chips on the left and right of this photo. This is the left side of the tank... And this is the right of the tank, see the two chips in the middle of the photo... The tank is a 4ft(w) x 20"(h) x 18"(d) and has scratches all over it. I have no idea how old it is as I got it off a mate. I had it setup for 12 months at my old place with no problems, but can't remember if the tank was chipped or not. I'm thinking I have the following options; * Risk it (errrr ... ) OR, * Sell the tank cheaply to someone who can fix it and use it for grow out etc If it's definitely stuffed, what would I be looking at to replace this tank ($$$)? I have a nice solid cabinet and hood in this size so I'd want the same size tank. Perhaps I could sell the cabinet and hood cheap, give away the tank free with it, and just upgrade to a 6ftr? ...Help??...
mcsx
my 6x2.5x2.5 has chips like this too, its not gonna cause any problems there not really in a problematic spot.
Freemason2250
Yeah won't make crap all difference if they are only superficial chips like that. Use thick foam for extra peace of mind if you like
newcichlid
I had a 4ftx18x18 with chips like that around the bottom edge and it ran for years without a problem. I personally think that the chips are not where it will affect the integrity of the tank, but if you could afford a 6fter, i say why not go for it
dysfctn
OK cool, I thought that being in the bottom piece of glass these chips would spell the end of it... Thanks for the quick responses
Phenomena
Yes, my 8x2.5x2.5 had a chip like that since day one. The door had just about 5cm clearance. I banged the tank while moving through it. The tank has been running close to 6 years with no problem.
