Hi all,

I thought I would share this with you. Every now and then something a little special comes throught the CDAS auctions and last Tuesday was the day. Here's "Bruce" a 20cm silver shark. The first photo is a out of focus but just to show a size comparsion against the so called "medium sized" sharks I recently bought at the LFS. And the second is him in his full glory. I picked him up for song as well.

He is a really cool fish. I am slowly building up a 4' planted display tropical tank in the house with only a few species and silver sharks are main one. I just wanted to do something a little different. Knowing me I will end up putting in some breeding catfish or breeding dwarf's like rams or apistos, I just can't help myself. :lol3: .

s far as I know the only real way to breed these guys is through hormone injection, this is simply not going to happen here  .

cheers

lol they get alot bigger then this. Most ppl think they are a great community fish but thats not the case. Unless your "community" tank is 10x3x3. They can reach double this size, although it takes along time and most ppl tire of them long before they reach their potential. Look after him mate im sure he has seen alot.

  • 2 weeks later...

My work has a large tank stocked primarily with silver sharks. They are a special fish. Very easily spooked. The can grow very large (fish tank large) with getting up like 20” to 2’ foot from memory.

These fish are great jumpers, so unless you want them to go the same way as your leptsomas, PUT THE LIDS ON!

Incidentally, don’t they eat plants?

My work tank is stuffed with Java fern so stick with tough plants like this and anubias.
