genetik_defekt
I have set up a 8x2x2 in my lounge room. Its currently cycling as i write this with about a week to go before it sees some fish. My problem is the water return pump in the sump is loud as can be. The thing sounds like a light air craft coming in to land! As its my lounge room i want something quiet! so we can hear the TV or so i can hear the sound of my wife repeatedly asking me to take out the trash Anyway the current pump is an aquaone 3000lph unit, not being a fan of AO myself it was only a matter of time before it was replaced. The humming has brought the event in question further ahead!. So guys can anyone recommend a nice quiet pump? i want about the same turn over 2500-3000 lph. And reliability is essential. Thanks guys. pjmowens
mate i have an ocean runner 3500. its quiet as.i paid 160 delivered for mine. i can pm you where i got it from if you want. do you have other filtration? depending on how heavily stocked your tank is you might need to upsize the pump a little bit. chorrylan
I'd recommend the ocean runner 3500 or the equivalent size in the laguna maxflo range. Ben at aoa stocks the laguna http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/catalog...32&catID=13 The ocean runner units are always a bit more problematic to get hold of and you have to watch out for grey-market ones. (If you search back through the history here for a member "rosco" you'll find a rather tacky saga involving an or3500, fair-trading and a non-sponsor retailer that forgot to mention the pump they sold didn't even come with an australian plug)
genetik_defekt
filtration wise im currently running a 48x20x20 sump with the standard bio ball/ filter wool combo. Its going to be too small for the fish i want( im picking up 20 silver dollars next week and i am looking to get 10 monoculus) so im going to upgrade and make a matrix sump on a slightly larger scale. Once my fish get some size ill upgrade the tank to a 10x3x2.5 it will fit nice and snug in my lounge room!! That laguna looks sweet as but if you can pjmowens can you pm the details of the oceanrunner, il check it out before i make a decision. So far im liking the laguna though. genetik_defekt
ok guys, i checked em both out and they both seem pretty good. but i still not 100% sure, i suppose ill never know which is the noisier of the two unitll i buy one. The big difference seems to be head height. The laguna is 1.9 with the OR being 3.3. The launga runs upto 3700 lph and can handle debris of upto 6mm i cant find a full details list of either but im still hunting.
Phenomena
2500-3000 lph sounds too low to me, especially for the fish you're planning to keep. I'd recommend OASE. I use it for my 8x2.5x2.5 in my living room. Extremely quiet and no vibration that you don't know it's running. Very well built and good warranty. But comes with a hefty price tag. IMHO worth every penny. I used the Neptune 5000 but had problem after 3 years, replaced with a new Nautilus 250 (due to discontinued Neptune 5000) under warranty. I never used Laguna or OR but people swear by them.
genetik_defekt
Oase nautilus 250 is damn near $600 so i probably dont wanna spend that at this stage, although i have heard /read some good things.Problem is by the time my fish get to a large enough size to where they will need 6000 lph turn over i will have upgraded my tank to the affore mention 10ftr I think at this stage i will be going for the OR, it should be able to stave off the need for a new pump for 2 years atleast by which time ill hopefully have my 10 ft tank ready to go. rosco
OR3500 is my recommendation for sure. I have an OR3500 and a 6500 but be very careful of a "cheap" price. When Ihad my issue with a certain site, I got a it has come straight from the German factory routine, blah, blah blah. If you contact Lousie or Daniel from Addicted2Cichlids they are good people to deal with and a site sponsor. They can get hold of them for you and the real Mckoy. cheers Rosco
