YAL05T
Just thought I would share some pics of a few of my fish: These guys were purchased as N. cylindricus "Gold Head" I have been wondering if it is the Isanga varient from the south of the lake as they tend to have a more yellowish base colour Adult, also a random tropheus that needs an ID, was a trade in that needed a home. These guys I bought as a "pair" of black occies, however I am thinking that one is a Lamprologus meleagris/speciosus I would really like advise here as they appear like two very different fish to me, and since the person I bought them off is "well versed" in Tangs I am a wee bit peeved if they have stuffed up. The colours are different, the body is different and the eyes are the biggest thing for me, I have heard of fish having large amount of dofferences between the sexes but this seems to much. Male orange form Leleupi who loves to dig I have heard these guys are the "Karilani" form, and have seen pics of a "Firecracker" varient that seems more yellow with orange fins, anyone seen them? Cheers, Brett
kilroy
The Tropheus looks to be a Moliro or Chipimbi. The iris looks red and the colouring is similar. Pic makes it hard to tell..
YAL05T
Cheers mate, it's a bit of a shy bugger and just happened to pop into the Neo's photo. I might try to get a better one at feeding time.
rosco
hi Brett, I agree with Shane the troph looks to me like Chipimibi or Moliro but it hard to tell. My chimps have a red eye and a nice big red flame on the flank. Those cylindricus look like mine and they are not gold heads. Again with occies it is hard to tell, but blacks can vary a heap (due to mode and water conditions) and mine looks like the one in the front of the picture. cheers rosco
Richard
Hey Brett, The front black occie is a true black occie, whereas the one behind looks to me like a meleagris, but it is hard to say completely as 3/4 of its body is covered by the one in the front. Cheers, Richard.
Richard
Just to add with the orange form leleupi they never cam with a locality but i think most commercial traders and hobbyist refer these to "German Bred" and the yellow lemon ones as the standard leleupi. Cheers, Richard.
parkesg
its pretty hard to tell from that pic what that shellie is, can you get another full body up close pic? Did the breeder also have meleagris?
YAL05T
Cheers guys, the guy I bought them off had bought them elsewhere trying to get pairs for himself and I think I may have got lumped with 2 fish of seperate species. I bought the cylindricus from bayfish originally, so no great surprise they are not what I paid for, their form has been a bit poor lately. If anyone has gold heads could they post a pic? I have pics, but the camera is 13mp so they shrink down like a bugger with imageshack, is there a way I can add them here in a bigger format? YAL05T
I had thought the fish in the front is a black occie and the rear is a meleagris/pearly occie. Now I need to find them mates. There goes my spare tank, so much for my plans of similis. At least the gold occies are getting it right.

YAL05T
Thanks Richard, Here is my first ever attempt to crop and post pics (bit of a techno struggler - blame my employer ) http://www.aceforums.com.au/index.php?act=...m&album=

gianniz
sorry champ it is maleagris how could someone make such mistake! they look totally different (unless there is no light!) the harder part is to find out what sex they are if they are full grown, then the size will make a difference. YAL05T
Yeah when I collected them, they were both washed out (It was a meet up to collect the fish). From what I have gathered from their behaviour and sizes I have a mature male of each species.
