Hi All,

As some might know I discovered my Electric Yellow female was holding. Well the fry are out!! I can only count 6 little one's.

Just a few questions if anyone knows. How long do I keep the mother in with the fry? and is 6 fry a small batch?

Any advice would be great.

thks

Etcha

ive had EY breed so many times its not funny. At one stage i had about 600 fry. In my opinion if the fry are milked from the mother then she no longer needs to be with them or if she has spat them then take her out, she is of no use to them now. Did she spit? or did you milk her? are the egg sacks fully formed into stomachs? If she spat and there were only 6 they probably ate each other in her mouth, i found i got more by milking but thats just me! either way if they are out i would remove her.

At what stage did you usually milk her?

wat size was she? i recently pulled a whopping three from one of mine. she was lucky to be five centimetres though so i cant complain. if the fry are already out of her mouth i would suggest the best thing is to put the mother in a seperate tank for 1-2 days. i normally do this just to monitor her and fed her up a little bit before she is put back with the colony. congrates!!!!

Hey people,

thanks for your reply. she spat them, however i still kept her in with them. I milked her last night as they kept going in and out of her mouth. It was the first time I've ever done that and I felt really bad for her as she seemed to be tired.

I've put her back in the main tank and she's doing well, eating now and her colouration is better as well. The male has started courting her already sheeesh...

oh and the female is only about 5cm, I couldn't believe she was holding..

thanks again ..

there is no need for her to be with her fry mate. Once you milk her she will start eating again. So best that you milk her and get it outta the way. In my opinion if your going to milk her then you should seperate her from the rest of your males for a few days so she can start to eat again without the male on her all the time

tootie. I would milk somewhere between 2-3 weeks, sometimes i would get it too early and other times she was just about to spit.

Best time i think is just around 2 weeks but sometimes its hard to know what day she conceived. As usually the first few days she holds she will be very shy

thanks yipp-e..

i've seperated the female now. she's looking good and eating well. Also great news, i have a jacobfreibergi holding and i just stripped her! couldn't believe it but she spat about 30-40 fry. my 5fter is just going crazy at the moment as my bristle nose had 15 fry as well.

but again thanks for ur advice :)
