whytri
hi guys, i am attempting to build a 2 teir 5x18 stand in the near future and was wondering if you guys can anwser a coiuple of my queries before i start. i was wondering weather using 4 90mmx45mm timber is sufficient for the legs, as i dont want to use 6 legs and block the front view of the 5x18. the stand will hold 2 2x18 on the top tier and a 5x18 in the middle tier with some tanks on the ground. With these tanks on the stand, i have worked out that iw ill hold about 500litres of water, this does not include the weight of the tanks. I have made a stand using the same wood to hold 2 standard 4 footer which is about 380 litres of water and it seems fine, not sure weather i can use the same design and same wood to make a slightly bigger stand which needs to hold a heavier load. let me know what you guys think. any input will be great. thanks in advance. steve24cro
A 5ft span should be fine with 90x 45s vertically, make sure u add enough bracing and use straight timber if you can.

Old Dave
Just remember to leave plenty of room above the tanks on the lower levels. You might want to put in some good size rocks or pieces of driftwood but there might be a problem squeezing them through the gap when the tank has a lot of water in it.. IME...
