Hi Guys,

Then the male swam over the top, fertilizing em...

They took turns doing their job... right out in the open, at the front of the tank...

I came home about 4 hrs later to see this :clap

I'll keep you all updated, if interested!! I've had em breed b4, but never right out in front of me b4... they must trust me, LOL.

Not bad considering they were only put in that tank last night, :thumb

Thanx for the advise/comments guys! The little girly is about 7.5cm the man of the tank is prob 10cm or so. They have now had 3 lots of eggs, and have eaten them all, LOL. What sort of div fish do you recommend? They'll end up as food anyway I suppose!!

I have the male's dad in my other tank, so if I was to remove him from his tank and put him in my 4ft, there would b blood shed I'm sure! I'll wait til after xmas and reassess i think...

If you really want the eggs to hatch, just remove the eggs once they have being fertilised by the male. I removed mine and put it in one of those small fry baskets that hang onto the side of the tank. So far i've had about 250 hatch from the first batch and about 300 from the second batch. :)

I don't know if you have realised it but they have laid on gravel... I dont think it will be all that easy to move them.

You could siphon them but I wouldnt try it. Just let them get it right themselves.

^^^ I don't know if you have realised but the eggs in the gravel are gone anyway refer to the 2nd post. Anyway i was just making a suggestion of what i did as my jewels ate the eggs the first two times as well. :thumb and good luck with it :)

Drop a flat, smooth rock or a tile in the tank. They should lay the eggs on it. It will make it easier to get the eggs. But you have to get them before they move them to the substrate. I thought mine had eaten all the eggs but when then hatched I realised they had hidden them in the substrate in a protected area. I think my yellow got the last lot tho. :(

Hi Guys, just for the record I'm a she, LMAO!!!

They do have flat rocks, but won't use em... i have had convicts in with them before, and they got ripped apart... =(....

They've had 4 batches now, and have only just eaten the last lot...hahaha... BUT they did last longer this time, almost 2 days...

I also tried taking the male out, but the mum ended up eating them too...

Currently I've put a couple of small sized bristlenoses in the tank... it seemed to have sparked a protective vibe in the Jewels... Maybe the next time they'll be successful...

Thanx for all your advise, I'll keep you all posted!! =)

***OK OK, a lil bit of excitement here... looks like they didn't eat all the eggs, I have found around 15 or so babies hiding in the gravel this morning!! The parents look like they are doing a good job guarding the young, and the BNs don't seem even remotely interested in going near them! Popped in sum fry food this morn, and tried to get pics, with no luck!! The parents kept shielding them, so that's a good sign!!***
