C_H
hey guys and gals i have a problem with my water clouding after i feed my fish its all nice and almost clear before i feed them but 10 minutes after i can barely see the other side of the tanks and its only 30cm from front to back its very annoying! And im thinking of restarting the entire tank its not a problem with the food because every other tank i have is all clear im using new life spectrum cichlid formula and HBH cichlid flake my lfs uses it and they dont have any problems either. The tank: * Tank size: 2ft x 1ft x 1.5ft lengthxwidthxheight holds about 70 liters. * Filtration: aqua nova ncf 600 canister 600 L/Ph and a small sponge filter. * Fish: 2x yellow labs, 2x rusty cichlids, 3 maleri gold peacocks, 2 fuelleborni, 1x maingano and 2 lionhead cichlids. * Substrate: coral gravel washed till water went clear. * Rocks: 12 small - medium size river rocks all used in tank before no problems. will be getting rid of 1x yellow lab 1x maingano and 1x maleri gold peacock. will post pictures soon! Any help will be appreciated Cheers, Drew

omniphile
This sounds really weird and it seems its likely to be some sort of chemical reaction. These are just wild ideas and I'm guessing: did you use some chemical to clean the glass before filling the tank with water? did you recently buy a new bottle of dechlorinator? does this tank use a diifferent filtration substrate/system than the other tanks? C_H
Hey thanks for the reply's i have just been down to the lfs and he has a 4x2x2 stocked with about 30 Malawi cichlids some the same as in my tank. I noticed his was cloudy as mine was he told me its just from them stirring up the gravel when searching for food (what they do after i feed them) so its no big deal just from stirring up the gravel hope this helps anyone experiencing the same problem. motorman
Your tank if kept clean shouldnt go cloudy after you feed them How long has the tank been set up? How much are you feeding them>? Do you gravel clean very often? Brad
mcsx
the other tank doesnt look exactly clear either, try testing your water and see if anything is out of wack, clean your gravel well, also maybe do more frequent water changes, maybe try some carbon in your filter that also helps. Cheers, Drew Your gravel should be fairly clean ( that is is you gravel clean ) so this should not be the case either. If you dont gravel clean i would grab yourself one as they are very useful. mcloughlin2
So just to clarify the problem is restricted to only just after feeding the fish? How long til the water returns to crystal clear? I just cringe when I hear some of the advice given by some aquariums. You should be able to put your hand in the tank and stir your gravel up and the tank should still remain relatively clear. (If it does become cloudy it should settle within say 30mins.) I'd get your water tested for everything possible. Post the results on here. Your tanks look just like newly setup tanks when the gravel isn't washed completely. So I'm quite stumped. Providing your water values are perfect I would invest in a flocculant agent. (Spelling may be wrong) These products are completely safe for your fish as they just bind free floating particles in the water which are then picked up by your filter. Avoid using a product that is called "A Clear" I think it is. It has a blue lid and white bottle if i have the name wrong. I've used it before and it works a treat clearing the water but it seemed to irritate the fishes gills and i had some serious issues with it.
