azzah
Just got this guy he is about 12 or 15cm and I wanted to check if he really is a venustus as he seems to have a white body and I've never seen one like this though in certain lights you can see a slight golden and I can see that his face is starting to turn blue. He is now in a tank with 6 other venustus and where ever he goes they follow and he seems to be doing a little bit of dancing and they seem to be dancing for him as well
friendlyburger
He looks like a venustus but hard to tell with colouring in photo. There is a fish from the same family called a 'livingstoni' that has similar markings but white body instead of yellow/gold. Try goggle image for picture. The brown markings on my guy don't seem to be like the livingstoni. The Livingstoni seems to have random patterns of brown whereas my guys brown markings seems to be closer to the venutus army pattern Here is a slightly better compressed image and this is a livingstoni Also since being in the tank overnight with some of my female venutus the blue in his face seems to be showing up more. Is it possible that the guy I bought him from yesterday wasn't feeding him the best food therefore making him not colour up as much. If he turns out not to be a venustus luckily I only paid $25 for him
TALLNEV
Hi mate, I am no expert but I have been breeding venustus for over 4 years now and have never had any appear white like yours. It is either a cross or he has been feed something not right either way I wouldn't use it to breed
marrick2204
Hi, I just picked up a Venustus recently and it looks nothing like your pic. Dont know why people try to pass off a livingstoni for a Venustus. Colour is different. If you had bought the fish from Bankstown, I passed on the fish as it wasnt what was advertised. Venustus fry to Adult still has the same colouring. Nice yellow to green and definitly not brown. cheers
ziad
I think that it is a livingstoni . (personally I think a better looking fish than venustus) if he is getting blue on the face then give hime a few weeks and you will grow to love him. brucem
It might be a venustus x livingstoni
andrew8710
I think Id agree with Bruce is most probably a cross.

cobaltcraig
Hi Mate he looks like a sub male nimbo l-stoni again its a bit hard by te quality of the picture The other picture you are using for a reference is that of a female l/stoni they have none of the green in them around the face Without seeing the fish in the flesh it could be of pure strain male n-stoni Cheers Craig P

I took him out of my venutus tank and he is now in my 180 gal display tank so it should be easier to take better pics of him as there is also better lighting. So I will try and get a better pic tonight. Since being in the 180 over night the blue in his face seems to be showing up a bit more now. I couldn't believe it he is about 12-15cm and the guy I got him from had him in a 3x18x18 tank. Guess I will have to continue my search for a nice sized male venustus

azzah
yeah the fact that I had to post on here to check shows that even I knew it wasn't. Was just disappointing having driven a 1.5 hr return trip @ 8pm only to find that it wasn't. He looked closer to the venutus colour in the other guys tank but that could have been the lighting as I could tell straight away something was wrong when I got him home. Anyone got a nice male venutus near the Sutherland shire area?
