LuNGz
Hi Guys im currently growing up some fry to start a colony. i have about 40 in total. as you could imagine this number of fish go through quite a bit of food. i really would like to sex the fish so that i only have about 5 males. this way im not growing up to many males. i was just wanted to know if anyone has some tips in sexing Blue Cobalts "Maylandia callainos" does the eggspot mean anything? are they males? i'm not to confident vent sexing and i was wondering if there was any other methods. otherwise im just going to have to wait until they get mouthfuls Cheers LuNGz
Gav
mouthful method is a good way. and they wont go through *that* much food. just be patient, get the girls out then take your time to pick the *best* of the males. trying to sex them too early usually means you get rid of girls inadvertantly
BOG6ON
From my experience with breeding cobalts, 7 out of 10 times both the males and the females have egg spots, but the where the female will only have 1 or 2 spots the male has up to 6 or 7. But like Gav said your better of waiting than getting rid of fish that you should be keeping.
