andrew8710
Hey, Im currently doing a bit of moving around in my fish room. Just wondering everyone's thoughts on the possibility of an Aulonocara species crossing with a Protomelus? Ive read on various sites that then can be kept together but I am a bit scepticle whether they might cross breed.. Thanks Andrew Edited March 29, 2008 by andrew8710
ViS
Yes they certainly could cross. I wouldn't do it personally. I've seen an electric yellow / blue dolphin cross before, so a peacock X protomelas would be more likely than that.
brucem
Andrew, I've got taiwan reefs with Benga's without any dramas. But i think you can have some unlikely species cross as was mentioned previously. It's hard to generalise with cichlids. Sometimes you can be lucky sometimes you're not. I had a female dolphin breed with a male venustus. She just didn't like my male dolphin. Bruce
ViS
Agreed. I just wouldn't take the chance myself. I'd never be 100% sure that the fry were pure and you wouldn't be able to tell until they were quite big. We'd all feel bad if we said it would be fine, and then he was "unlucky".
