roskam3001
Hi all, Interested in knowing what enthusiasts keep as tankmates with their frontosas. Is it possible to create a tanganyikan community tank with frontosas? I would imagine that julies and comps/calvus would be able to hold their own with fronnies (as adults obviously). Tank would be a 6 footer. Cheers
Out of Africa
Mate, I have had electric blues and yellows and they were fine. I wouldn't keep cobalt blues as they can be very aggressive and fin nip! But that is my experience!

brucem
I've got 5 frontosa in a 5x2x2 with 3 leleupi, 5 julies and 2 gold comps. The forntosa aren't full grown but are breeding as are the gold comps. Also have some Protomelas spilonotus, an EY and a kadango holidaying with them at the moment. I found that without the malawi's that swim in the middle of the tank, the tangs hid most of the day. Fish in the mid tank seem to encourage the others out. roskam3001
That's a pity about needing the malawi's to bring the tangs out. I was hoping to put together a tang only community tank. What are your thoughts on lepto's. Lepto's would only inhabit the top layer of the water column and, I would imagine, be too speedy for the fronnies. brucem
I have a lot of rock in my tank, so maybe if I cut it down then I would have seen the fish more. I depends a lot on your set up and your species. Do a little more research and see what micro habitat they like and that will help you build a nice compilation of species. As for cyps, I've always wanted to try it, but there are a lot of people who say don't because Cyps are frontosa natural food in the wild. I think that this has been enough to scare them off and because Cyps aren't exactly cheap, they haven't even tried......and so far, I'm with them!!
