KIMO
I have been trying to take some photos of the same marks/spots on the chins on some of my fish. Almost exactly the same as yours. The good news is that it doesn't seem harmful. My fish get them from time to time and the marks seem to go away. It hasn't affected the fish in any way so far. I think "scott to4" is right. Has to do with substrate forageing as i don't have soft sand. Just keep an eye on it and make sure its not getting worse or spreading to the fins or the body of the fish. If it comes and goes like on my fish, its probably nothing to worry about. Good Luck, KimO.
mattyr
There was a substrate very fine black sand however I moved her when she first started to hold and there is no substrate where she is now. The marks were just starting when she was in the first tank though.

Barca888
My rostratus has similar markings, think mine gets it from scratching his underside on the substrate.
Robbo2232
My Yellows have it too! i have been told that feeing them food that is high in spirulina causes it, i have mixed garlic with my food and it has seemed to be less but still there, i am going to try something with less spirulina next time i buy some food. dobbin4
Hmmm !! dont think it has anything to do with % of spirulina in your food, More like substrate, digging,,, but if she is holding not likly she would be digging ???has it got less as she is still holding?? have you had a look ?? meaning caught her ??If looks ok i would not worry.
