MVP
I've ran into this several times in the last few weeks. My fish are jumping out of some of my tanks which dont have glass lids and im curious if anyone has any ideas as to why? The fish i've had jump out were a polystigma in a 4ft with 11 others about 8cm, an electric blue (i think) in an over stocked tank found when i was moving the tank to a new place the fish had been in there about 7days and finally i just had a female green terror that was in a new tank on her own. After just recollecting what went on do most of you find when fish are stressed they will jump out of a tank? Or do they react to colours? I'm not sure what it is and would like to fix it preferably without having to put lids on all my tanks but i'd rather do that then find these suprises around... BaZ
I've seen big fish jump out of tanks, trying to catch a fly or something that was hovering around above the water. I've also seen small fish jump out of tanks if they are being chased by a bigger or more cranky fish. They seem to shoot for the safety of higher water, but just keep going! I guess fish could be jumping out if your water is not they way they like it, but I have no evidence to back that up.
DWC
We lost 1 fish that jumped out when we went away. Had a mate feeding them and left the lid off. That being said, our 10cm Oscar will jump clean out of the water to take food from my fingers Dave

They are now about 15-25cm between the 4 of them and now i cant keep them without a lid on the tank Oh well i enjoyed it when they were young and the fish loved not having to fight with the others for the food
