brucem
Hey all, Many of us keep on single species setups or try to have only malawi or tanganyikan setups. I've been toying with the idea of setting a tank based on a locality from either of the two main lakes. Sure there are some species that are spread throughout the lakes or large areas of the lakes at least, but there are others that seem to be unique to certain areas. Has anyone ever tried to create such a setup (eg Likoma Is, lake Malawi)? I'm just wondering what combinations you chose and whether you could post any pics. cheers Bruce
poxboy
I've often been keen to try a single location biotope aswell. Would love to see some pics if you go ahead with it. What collection point would you choose? Bretto.
brucem
I'd have to research it a bit more before diving in. I was also thinking that you might need a pretty big tank to do it most effectively, that's why I was hoping to learn from others experience. Paulochromis
I thought about this too, and was planning to set up an empty std 4ftr tank along those lines. I initially contemplated Likoma Island, but then decided that I liked some of the fish from Ngara more (eg white tail acei and flametail peacock). However, the wife decided that we liked tropheus, so that put an end to that idea, we now have an 18-strong colony of Moops instead. Good luck,
Mbuna
I too have thought about this quite a few times but never really got around to doing it. well i did get some fish together but the tank never eventuated. i was going with either Likoma or Chisumulu because of the great choice of cichlids that inhabit these islands such as A. hueseri, M. aurora, M.maingano just to name a few I think a larger tank - minimum 6x2x2 would best suit this setup as ech fish would have its own niche' in the tank. I was even toying with the idea of building a smallish pool for this after seeing my neighbors man made 'native' habitat pool. please post some pics if you do decide to go down this track, i would love to see them cheers
