Tank Stand Footing

Hi,

I just purchased a 6x2x2 tank with stand. It is a flat cube like stand you sometimes see at the LFS.

I have been talking to my builder regarding making sure the floor is strong enough to hold the tank. We are going to put in some steel under the house to reinforce it.

It is a house on piers with timber floor. I went over the old timber floor with the new timber floor in an opposite direction so it is weaved (and strong).

The builder has suggested I may want to think about having some longer pieces of timber directly under the tank so that the weight spreads out more evenly on the top timber floor, and does not leave any unsightly impressions in the timber.

Since my LFS is closed today, and I can't check on the design, can anybody tell me about footings of a standard stand:

How many points (feet) actually touch the floor and hold weight for a 6ft tank?

Are the feet are standard size? 30mm x 100mm or something?

Is it a good idea to stand the tank on larger pieces of timber to distribute the weight a bit better?

Do I really need to do any of this at all to make sure my floor is not damaged and can hold the weight?

Thanks

Regards

Seth

Its hard to say . But i would lisen to your builder friend. If you have reinforced the floor as you say I recon it should be fine. I have had a 6 x 18 x 18 on a timber floor and no probs, surpose depends on how old the house is but as long as the piers are ok you should be fine. Most 6ft stands would have 6 legs to help distribute the weight but there are heaps of stands all made in differant ways.

Hope helps John

i have a 6x2x2 on a timber floor and i placed beams 7cm x 4.5cm under the legs to distribute the weight. i also have 2 racks of standard 6 footers that i placed on beams that are 14cm x 4.5 cm . i you have no confidence in your floor :dntknw: then i would use a solid piece of timber the same size as the tank .I did this ounce with a 5x2x2 .

Hope this helps :raisehand:

Rang the LFS and they said the base has a solid piece of timber to distribute the weight which is fantastic.

Next quest is, should I place some felt on this piece of timber so it doesn't damage the timber floor surface?

Ended up grabbing some marine carpet from Bunnings. Should do the trick. :thumb
