bristlenose

hi all

it has often been said that bristlenose are one of the easiest fish to breed....... NOT FOR ME! ;)

For the last 2 years i have been trying unsuccessfully to breed the little buggars and have not had any luck so i gave up and just stuck to just having them in my tank.

i have a large orange spot male in the tank who occupies an overturned easter island statue.(he never comes out cept to feed)last night i was doing a clean and saw that there was another b/n in with my orange spot, for a moment i thouht it might have been one of my female commons,i kicked my big male out and had a closer look and saw that is was my male common with around 15 lill b/n with still with there egg sacks,

OMG!!!!

what should i do? boris (orange spot)wont give up the statue without a fight and im sure they cant both occupy it... can i move the statue, dad and bubs to another tank? would my community fish eat the babies or would boris?

god, i feel like a new mum!!!

advice needed, thanks everyone!!!!

Firstly i would advise to keep the common Bn and orange spot sperate.

Secondly, they will breed best in a species tank. that will make it that there will be nothing to eat the fish

Depending on what "community" fish you have they most probably will be eaten.

Take the fry out once there egg sac's have gone and place them in a fry saver

Hope this helps, Jack

The "catfish corner" and other "non-cichlid discussion" forums are a little bit slower. there is forums out there just for catfish. Anything cichlids on here and you will get more views and replies.

just want to say that for a forum where there is a lot of knowledgable people 1 reply out of 53 views is a bit bad.

all i wanted to say

G'day

I understand it is a little frustrating at times. Deep breath.

Jack seemed to answer your question, I saw no point in saying, do what he said.

PS. If I (or others) had disagreed with the advice given then I (they) would have posted up a comment.

Perhaps the only thing I would recommend is that if you decide not to follow Jack's advice, add a cave so that each male has their own. But you really should  separate these two different types of fish.

Do you have any more questions or what is your plan, perhaps then people will post up some thoughts on what you have in mind.

How are the kittens going?

Sorry that you are feeling ignored by all of us - I guess we see so many questions asked and answered about BNs that we all figure the answer is already here if you look!

We do try to be helpful, and I think everyone here goes out of their way to share their experiences.

As previously mentioned this is a cichlid forum, and there are more targeted forums out there. Having said that, there is a ginormous amount of information about BNs already written up in this sub-forum. Seek the answers and you will find!

Please don't feel ignored.

I don't know lots about breeding so i look at these posts to get info.

I don't have enough experience to comment and i think alot of other viewers share the same view.

I know i'd love to share my wisdom when i can but also would hate to give the wrong advise.

Thanks,

KimO.
