Tang Tank - Brush Algae

Hi all,

Just wondering whether anyone has any advise on how to clear brush algae.

I have a 700 litre tang tank (2 metre's in length) with the following:

25 Cyp Leptosoma Kitumba's

6 Neolamp Multi's

6 Neolamp Petricola

2 Neolamp Cylindricus

2 lamp Ocellatus

1 Eret Cyanostictus

2 Juli Transcriptus

2 Bristlenose

Filtration is a trickle filter sump with 2 powerheads.

I have a uv sterilizer (laguna powerclear max 1000 8wt)

I have 4 T5 tubes which are on 6.5 hours per day.

The tank has about 100-150 kg's of rock - two mounds at either end separated by a lot of sand.

pH 8.6

kH 192ppm

gH 300ppm

nitrite zero

nitrate 5-10ppm

phosphate zero

Food is new life spectrum flake and pellet, frozen vegies, brineshrimp and daphnia.

I do a fortnightly 120 litre water change.

I leave the new dosed water to sit for 24 hours before adding to tank, adjusting the temp to meet tank temp

I appreciate that there will be algae growth on rocks and tank glass which I am happy to live with but not brush algae.

Not real keen to add chemicals to tank to remove the algae so any natural treatments are preferred.

Are Tropheus a solution ? if so, can anyone recommend some that might suit current tank mates.

I realise that I may need to rearrange the rockwork (perhaps move rocks to middle of tank and have a lot of

swimming space either side for Lepto's.

Appreciate any assistance anyone may have

Regards

Scott

Hey Scott I know this is off topic but do you think you could post up some photos of your tank it sounds awesome!

Adding more catfish would help with algae problems definantly on the glass.

Also shouldnt the uv sterelizer kill of the algae spores so you dont have this problem?

i'll try.not very good at that and my camera isnt that flash... :(

in regards to the uv, yes it does but brush algae is very persistent. the uv is great for your other types of anoying algae and certainly keeps the water crystal clean. I have heard that high alkaline tanks can tend to have problems with some sorts of algae.

regards scott.
