JamesSouth
Is it ok and won't hurt an Eheim 2217 pump, to reduce the flow by turning the intake tap off a bit?
Ash
most pumps prefer their outlets regulated, as this just simulates more head height, whereas restricting the inlet can cause cavitation

Is that ok for the pump long term? I have done it and it doesn't sound any different at all, just pumping less water.
electricyellowz
Just wondering why are/do you want to reduce the flow on your filter? You could also kink the tubes and that would reduce the flow. (this has happened to me before on accident.)

It's the same as having more head height, so yes it's a better long term option than cavitating the thing & possibly breaking the shaft/impellor
JamesSouth
Just wondering why are/do you want to reduce the flow on your filter? I just plugged two 2217's in for the first time on a 4x2x2 and I thought it might have been a bit vigorous. After an hour I don't think it is. Old Dave
James, I am not familiar with the Eheim 2217 pump but I had a similar situation. I just added some 13mm clear plastic tubing (goes white real quick), reduced/blocked the end and drilled a few holes holes to make it like a spray bar. You can spray across the tank or down the wall depending on where you make the holes. The more or larger the holes the less disturbance. Works for me!!
