Vukie.
I have 4 juvie maingano hat i have been keeping in a small grow out tank, they are about 6 months old but only about 3cm big. a few weeks ago i noticed one of the females looked to be holding but the next day it was gone so though nothing of it, tonight i saw them breed and she is holding again Just wondering if this is normal behaviour for such small maingano? im not to fussed and not expecting any fry from them but thought it was a bit early for them to stat practicing
brendon
When my maingano were young they were always courting and looking like they would breed but never did , but if they are breeding now imagen how much they will when they are older
Josh
I have had them breed at 6 months old but not at 3cm. Most of my two month old maingano are bigger then 3cm. Josh
Vukie.
yeah they are pretty small fo their age, they were in a little AR126 which is a little bit bigger then a 1 foot tank so i guess this has stunted their growth. have moved them to a 2.5 footer now so should see them stat to grow quite soon
ViS
I've had them breed at 4cm or so, but only ever producing a couple of fry when that size. The only cihlids I've had breed smaller than that (that reach 10cm+ as an adult) are perlmutts, which have bred at 3cm.

ViS
Serious? The pheno's I've owned in the past were at least 12-18 months old and 8-10cm before they even looked like breeding. Many didn't breed until after that. Can you take a picture for us with her holding?

electricyellowz
I dont think I will be getting a pic for a while as my camera sux and the fish wont come out and is way too quick. She is actully a good mum tumbles the eggs and everything. I am going to catch her out tonight and put her in a diy fry saver and go from there.
