Juvie Maingano Breeding?

Vukie.

Recommended Posts

I have 4 juvie maingano hat i have been keeping in a small grow out tank, they are about 6 months old but only about 3cm big. a few weeks ago i noticed one of the females looked to be holding but the next day it was gone so though nothing of it, tonight i saw them breed and she is holding again :B

Just wondering if this is normal behaviour for such small maingano? im not to fussed and not expecting any fry from them but thought it was a bit early for them to stat practicing :lol3:

I have had them breed at 6 months old but not at 3cm. Most of my two month old maingano are bigger then 3cm.

yeah they are pretty small fo their age, they were in a little AR126 which is a little bit bigger then a 1 foot tank so i guess this has stunted their growth. have moved them to a 2.5 footer now so should see them stat to grow quite soon

I've had them breed at 4cm or so, but only ever producing a couple of fry when that size.

The only cihlids I've had breed smaller than that (that reach 10cm+ as an adult) are perlmutts, which have bred at 3cm.

Serious?

The pheno's I've owned in the past were at least 12-18 months old and 8-10cm before they even looked like breeding. Many didn't breed until after that.

Can you take a picture for us with her holding?

I dont think I will be getting a pic for a while as my camera sux and the fish wont come out and is way too quick.

She is actully a good mum tumbles the eggs and everything. I am going to catch her out tonight and put her in a diy fry saver and go from there.
