Ben Eatoff
Hey all! Was watching my gold occies in my AR-510, when i noticed that i had a few tiny tiny snails around.. Also i noticed that my Gold Occies Spawned! 1 little baby fry sitting there being catered for! My question: Is there any anti snail stuff out there thats safe to use with fry? Cheers

poxboy
What sort of snails ? My occies breed constantly in amongst plague proportions of little red ramshorns. They never seem to worry them though . What exactly is your concern with the snails ? Bretto.
Ben Eatoff
On closer inspection theres 5 little fry! Seems like they were hiding at the back of the shell, but are all out and about now! My concern with the snails is that they are uninvited and unwelcome in the tank.. I'm more-so worried in case i get an outbreak of snails in there. poxboy
I'm betting you'll see more fry turn up in the next few days. I've found the average size for my broods is about 15-20, although if they are young fish it could be a few less. I purposely keep snails in all my breeding and grow out tanks, particularly the occies. I find the best thing to feed young 'uns is Baby Brine, though uneaten stuff can get messy. Snails do a great job of cleaning up the scraps. I'm sure there's probably reasons you shouldn't encourage them though . Well done, and good luck with your new bubs. Any chance of some pics ? Bretto. Colfish
Hey all! My question: Is there any anti snail stuff out there thats safe to use with fry? i wouldn't resort to chemicals to control snails. if you're only seeind a few, pick them out now before they explode into plague numbers check out the post about the new snail trap, seems to work well
Ben Eatoff
Thanks for the replies! Yeah last night i just put in the hand and picked out the few snails that i could see (despite the male occie having a nibble at my hand). Because of the occies small size i was impressed by how many fry they are raising. No chance of pics as yet, i only have my phone, and the babies look too small to identify!
