DWC
Just bought 150g NLS grow. Went to my brothers place to see his sharks and angels have grown quite fast and large on Tetra Colourbits. Looking at the packs both seem to have similar ingredients(46% protein, NLS Grow 50% etc.) NLS cichlid formula has about 34% protien. Would the extra protien in the colourbits cause bloat longterm. Anyone used both?? Wich was better for your cichlids? Cheers Dave
Josh
I used to use color bits but found it turned my mbuna eggs pink and infertile if over feed. You wont be upset with the NLS grow. I feed it to all my fry now Josh
Eaglebarret
Hi DWC, I have used both and NLS is by far the better one. The grow keeps you fish healthy and they grow quite nicely. I also use NLS on my adult which I once did use colorbits and have found my fish much better and more colourful with NLS.
Vukie.
I also used to feed colour bits but found it turned my yellows an orangeish colour. I have swapped to a mixture of NLS/Hikari/Frozen foods now and prefer it to the Colourbits. I still have some and feed it occasinally but keep it away from any tanks with yellow fish in there. I think the key is variety too much of any food wont be a good thing.
poxboy
I reckon coulorbits are like Mcdonald's for fish. Everything loves them, but I'm not sure they're particularly good for them. I'd stick to using NLS / Omega One / Sera Flora / HBH / OSI etc. as a staple, and save the colour bits for a treat every now and then. BTW, there's another food due out soon that I'm very keen to try. Breeders Blend is releasing a spirulina flake with NatuRose added. I think Ben @ Age Of Aquariums will be stocking it. I'm gonna give it a go. Bretto.
oakes
Would the extra protien in the colourbits cause bloat longterm. High protein food can cause bloat in herbivorous species.
pride
Faster growth rate can also depend on how often you do water changes. I believe alot of people become obsessive with food brands on the forum especially with the NLS hype. It may be good food but very pricey. You see peoples fish who feed the cheaper brand orca or hikari foods to those that use NLS and I don't see any differences in colour or health. Note: I'm not trying to start a debate or ask for flaming but only my opinion......
