Tunnel Rat
Looking good Alex I must say in that front end shot they do look like Florida's or spotted not gators. Get on AP with these shots the two experts Solomon & Brook will tell you the exact species. It can be very hard to tell a Spotted from a Florida as the markings mean nothing.A Gators beak does not taper off as much as your do my bet is a florida. How do you find them as far as fin nipping goes my little guy 23cm has a bad habit of nipping at feeding time ? But the little Endi in the same tank knows how to sort him out as he had hold of him by the beak the other day.No matter how hard he straggled he could not get out of the Endi's bite.Have you heard your endi bite yet so loud. Your guys look close to my gars they were id as Florida's by the boys at AP. What do you think close take on notice of the markings and dark colouring. They both are over 50cm now. One thing I have noticed with these gars is when they are small there beak is long and skinny as they grow it becomes short and fatter. Alex
Very nice pics of some great fish. Brook and Sol haven't made up there minds yet. At this stage they could be either florida, spotteds or shortnose or a possible hybrid. Apparently my little fella's are showing signs of being each. I'm not too let down they aren't gators as they are still great fish. Growing fast! But my search for real gator gars continues...

Sounds like you will just have to wait a little longer for them to grow a bit more for a true id.How big are they now ? How would you like to own Solomon's crocodile gar that is the best looking gar I have ever seen. Are you Alex on AP as well ? There were some gator gars around Sydney not that long ago (5 weeks) looks like they did not make it to WA I no longer have those two gars in the pics my RTG was giving them hell.I seen them the other day they are so fat and big now (50cm) a friend has them (Ventrails).I only have my little guy now. Rat Yes, the crocodile gar is something else. Magnificent looking animal. My username is "Peck" on AP. Would love to see some pics of your old gars at 50cm! that is a devent size for florida's/spotteds to get. I have noticed that most seem to slow down dramaticaly at around 40cm. My little fellas are now pushing 20cm. Grown a heap since I have had them.

The tsn's doing well apart from getting nipped in the middle of the night by the gar it got a couple of whiskers shortened

My gar is a bit of a nipper too more nipping looking for food I think they have a very small brain I just posted a pic of my little guy and he looks very different to both of your gars and he is very similar in size at 23cm just measured him got him up against the glass.
