Maingano bred !

Looked in my fish tank this morning and found my smallest maingano with a batch of eggs in her mouth , there cant be to many because she is only about 3-5cms i have 5 maingano in the tank with alot of other cichlids like e yellows , polit , salousi , albino zebras this is the first time they have bred , i thought they were all male because i have 2 dominant males both maingano and they dominate each corner of the tank but the litle female dosnt seem to hide she is out and swimming with the eggs in her mouth, there is a decent amout of rock work in the tank should i just leave her for the 20 or so days and milk her becuase i have no other tank for the babies , but could put her in a big frysaver its like fish net and would be big enough to hold her untill she spat , but then again its her first time holding , should i just let her be ? ? ? :dntknw: any help would be great

cheers

let her be, if its her first time she wil probably spit, if after 20 days she is sill holding then take her out and you can try strip her or let her spit naturally.

From my experience dont put her in the net, it stresses them out and they end up swallowing or spittig the eggs out

I have a colony of 30+ maingano and I have had some of the larger females hold several times, on one occassion I have netted a holding female and palced her in a seperate tank, after a few days she swallowed. On another occassion I tried to net them and palce them in a fry saver, they were too fast for me and after 20 mins I gave up. The next day all the females swallowed.

A friend suggested to me to let them hold for approx 20 days and then place them in a frysaver to spit or milk them. I havent got this far yet. Some of my females are holding now..

Hopefully I can get some fry LOL

I might just let her be and after 20 days milk her if she still has the babies , she is getting hungry though everytime i feed the fish she swims out and just watches the food float past , i feel sorry for her :( but hope i can keep the fry and grow them up , hopefully in the future she will be a good breeding fish
