Flowerhorn...

Recommended Posts

Open a South American cichlid book to just about any page and you'll have your answer :(

Trimac, devil, synspilum, bifasciatus, and maculicauda are just a few of the likely candidates.

There are no "rules" when it comes to flowerhorns, which is why they are so scary for our hobby. Depending on how you breed them and with what, you can get something that looks like a pure species on the outside, but certainly isn't.......

My suggestion is to crossbreed all flowerhorns and flowerhorn breeders with a butchers cleaver and a truckful of uppercuts.

This is a natural question coming from natural curiosity. Flowerhorns are STILL popular overseas and breeders are every bit as dedicated and committed to their fish as we are here. Why dont you google for info or send me a private PM for better info?

Less likely to upset people that way.....

I guess ViS is expressing the view that the breeding of flowerhorns endangers the cichlid keeping hobby in Australia. He's right. I also view the continued breeding of these fish here as a serious problem and one that should be discouraged at all costs.

I dont question the dedication of the breeders of flowerhorns (or the desire of most of them to make money from their hobby).... but when you consider what's at risk it's simply not worth it.

ACE Inc. wont accept sponsors who trade in these fish and wont allow them to be traded on ACE forums.

This may sound harsh - but it's not personally directed, it's just something we believe is right.
