mark_82
I thought I'd post a couple of pics of my new 5x2x2. This tank is an upgrade from my old 36"x24"x14". The background is a 6x2 universal rock background (olgas) cut to size. Substrate is 60kg of Newcastle beach sand. I still need to buy some rocks and maybe a couple of plants. The tank has been cycling for almost a week now. The sump is a 36"x18"x18" matrix style sump. I have filled the first chamber with japanese filter matting and cotton wool. The second chamber has 4 litres of matrix, japanese filter matting and cotton wool. Pump is an OceanRunner OR3500. A 300W Jager heater is in the sump and I'm going to buy another one soon. I have installed a 32mm durso standpipe in the weir and a spray bar made of 15mm PVC for the return.

mark_82
Love the B/G did you glue it in Yup, the background is siliconed in. I had to put a couple of clamps around the weir to hold the background in place while the silicone was setting. I then covered the silicone with some crushed up sandstone while the silicone was still wet.
Bruce
Excellent stuff What is cycling the tank? What fish have you got planned for it? Bruce

mark_82
Excellent stuff What is cycling the tank? What fish have you got planned for it? Bruce I'm doing a fishless cycle using a 25% ammonia solution. So far, the ammonia is at 5 ppm and the nitrites are at 0.25 ppm. I'll try to get a hold of some seeded media to speed things up. I'll be keeping a variety of african cichlids. A friend is keeping the fish from my old tank until the tank has finished cycling.

rosco
Very Nice stuff. I am in the process of doing something similar but for a 6x2x2. I have the universal background and the sump is on order. I was going to stuck the background in ont he weekend but I have injury my back so I will have to wait. I got the 12' roll that is 40mm thick "the crevice" Is the OR3500 really quite (it needs to be "wife" quiet)? I am still undecided what brand to go for. cheers rosco
