Recommended Posts

I'm setting up a sump and would like some recomendations.

Firstly i will have two pipes coming in. 1 will be a siphon and the otherwill be a 60mm pipe comming from a drilled whole in the side of the tank.

My current design is as follows:

A 2 x 1.5 x 1.5 tank with 2 sections in it created wit hglass baffles.

Water goes into first section which is full of mechinical filtration

Flows in to section 2 which is purly bio balls.

out of this section into the return section which holds pump, heater,

Water pumped back out.

Any suggestions are great .

Cheers

Isnt that three sections? :lol1:

How much water is going to be flowing through the sump?

If the water is piped into the first section then how will it get into the second and third section?

True True Must be thu arvo

Not sure about flow rate yet but i will be looking at a 4000lt / hr i would think.

The water moves between sections like in any sump? Water flows over the top of the second baffle and into the third section as that section fills up and hence forth.

if I understand correctly you plan on submersing the bio-balls? if thats the case use something like matrix which is far better for this type of application. Bio balls are far more effective emersed.

A diagram would do wonders for my understanding.

Thanks Hilton

Designs changed over week end and are as follows.

2 x (2x1x1) Tanks With a bulk head joining the two. The first will have Mechanical filtration the second will have the Clay balls. Will have each tank divided into two to support the sponge and bio filtration.

What is the best type of mechanical filtration to use?

Cheers
