what size sump

Hi all,

What will be the smallest sump u guys will use for a 6x2x2 most probably using a 2000L/hr submersible pump. will make 2 of these http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/manage...r_Changing.html as it is impossibleto drill the tank in its current location.

am thinking to make a sump of 6ftx13"(w)x8-9"(h) as the space under the cabinet is only around 14" high, so i think 8-9" is a reasonable high for room to take out the media for cleaning.

do u guys think this size is good enough? and the 3-4" will get me enough room for cleaning?

thanks in advance.

hey i'll give you the best idea. make the sump 10% of the tank so when you want to do water changes turn off the pump and siffon the water out of the sump. Or make it a small trickle fillter with a weir that works best in my tanks.

Cheers hope that helps

Are you building the whole water changing system or just the overflow?

If you are thinking of using those overflows they wont work on your system. Well they will work but I doubt that they would flow 1000Lph. You may have to make them from larger diameter pipes. If the flow becomes to great for any reason then the just overflow.

I would make a proper overflow box if you want to go this way.

I dont think that 3-4 inches is enough room to get into your sump, but you wont be in there al that often so you may be able to do it if you have thin arms.

Try and search up some DIY plans for a sump. there is one somewhere that uses plastic tubs and a bucket. This would be you best option, but I think the height of the stand you are using is going to be too low.

3 to 4 inches in not enough room between the base of your stand and the top of the sump regardless of how skinny your arms are. I have this, and I can tell you it's really tough to put your water pump (with hosing attached) into it. Also if you've got a spinner arm, glass lid and elbow in place, it's hard to take that off the sump as well.

If I had to do it again, I'd leave at least a 6 inch gap.
