Dreamwater
I have just noticed a couple of wounds on my 2 green sevs that were not there this morning! I think they may have burned themselves on the heater...but I am not sure... prior to noticing the wounds I was adjusting the heater, and as they are protecting fry they may have attacked the heater which has burned them both....though I did not notice them do it, but the heater had been moved. If it is burns, should I just leave it to heal nayurally, or perhaps adding some melafix? I have recently been adding salt due to new fish added to the tank, so perhaps the salt may be enough? Help appreciated as I have never had to deal with burns before on my fish....
Mani A
the 2nd pic looks like hole in the head but my fish had white in the middle i does look like a burn but most aqurium heaters would not do that ( i'd think) i'd like to see what it is though, but put melafix in and prime (or stress coat)
Dreamwater
Cheers for the reply Mani, hole in head wouldnt appear that quick though would it?..as the wounds were not there this morning. The only other cause that I can think of is that they have been lip locking today, and going by size difference of male and female, it is in about the right spot for their top lips??? there is also a bit of damage to the males bottom lip which you can see in the first pic
Old Dave
Can HITH be that BIG?? I certainly hope not. I can't see both your fish balancing the heater on their schnoz or both of them trying to move it to the point of pain. I haven't really tried to hold onto the heater underwater but I am guessing the surrounding water will stop most of the excessive heat transference. Cichlids being cichlids, my money is on the lip locking. A little help to prevent infection taking hold - Gotta be worth it.
Tension 03
I think it is lip lockingas Dave stated, as my two male lombardoi aquired the same injuries after having a mad biff infront of the female which lasted like 20minutes lol. I think it will just heal itself but it wouldnt hurt to aid a bit more in the prevention of infection. Hope that helps
Dreamwater
Yep all good guys, thanks for the replies, was my second choice....wounds from lip locking, they have been in hospital tank since I found them that way with melafix treatment...and all looks good, nearly fully healed...
