It's clean and not so fine that it gets sucked up in your filters. Also doesn't need much rinsing and doesn't trap debris like coral sand. You can get it for $12-$15 a 25kg bag from bunnings, clark rubber or pool shops.
Dreamwater
Agree with Kilroy....I use PFS in my tanks, looks great, easy to clean with a gravel cleaner, and fish have a ball hoovering it around, especially the sevs and geos It's clean and not so fine that it gets sucked up in your filters So I thought until I added an FX5 to my tank....the intake pipe is now a few inches shorter so it is nowhere near the bottom.... Vukie.
Does the pool filter sand affect PH in anyway? im using coral sand at the moment as it was reccomened to me for cichlids and have never had a PH problem before, i have used the same coral sandfor years but it is starting to go green from algae and no matter how much i clean it it just wont come off. The Pool Filter Sand won't buffer your water. If you have a canister or sump, bag some coral sand up and place them in there, and it will continue to buffer your water. A pair of stockings would probably do the trick, otherwise a micro bag or similar.

kilroy
I'd prefer to pay double for PFS. It is much much cleaner and required minimal rinsing.
lxs
I havent used it.. but i hear that crushed marble is pretty good. nice and cheap and you can get a clean cut white effect. you can get different sizes, from chunks to as fine as sand. just another option.
