Nitrate 0? is your tank cycled? At what stage is it all going wrong? the eggs turning white? getting wrigglers? parents swallowing the fry? etc. Sometimes they need a few practice runs, let them do their thing again and see if they get better at it... Make sure you feed them really well to try and reduce the chance of them getting hungry and swallowing.
sandy001
Hi Fishrocks My 'Orange heads' are having a similar problem the eggs are laid and fertilised but they disapear after a day or two. Do you have any other fish in with them. ie Bristlenose that may be eating the eggs at night. I have various Rainbowfish in with my Orange heads but I don't think they are eating the eggs as the Orange heads are very defensive of the eggs. What do you mean disappear in a day or two? In my case the eggs are picked up about 24 hours after fertilisation(i can nearly set the clock to it). Fishrocks, As BJL82 said, give them time, if they breed successfully on the first try it is very unusual. They will come good as they sound like they are still young fish.Afterall practice makes perfect and we all enjoy a bit of practice. Stress from other tank mates may cause them to swallow, they may not want to release them because of the tank mates. When i notice one of my pairs "courting" and defending an area i try and feed the other tank mates at the other end of the tank and feed the pair extra especially after they've laid the eggs. sandy001
Hi Chevguy My first spawn disapeared after 48 hrs I couldn't see anyone holding. I assumed they picked them up & swallowed them, there were parts of egg casings on the rock they spawned on. The second spawn disapeared on the first night, not sure what happened to them I think there is 1 bristlenose in there I am not sure if it ate them during the night. There are also alot of Rainbows in there but the Geo's seem very defensive of them. Thanks Dave
fishrocks
ive heard that geo tapajos r really good parents so i dont think it will be stress. i just think the male is not mature enough. a few more tries may do. thx.
fishdance
If your really keen on get fry, you can just steal the rock with eggs and hatch them out yourself. You can even hatch in a bucket assuming you can keep it warm in winter. I recommend you turn the rock vertically but upside down (so particles dont settle on eggs) and if possble have the rock slightly off the bottom so water current can get right around. Only need a gentle airstone.

fishdance
No need for parents to hatch eggs. If your worried will be able to see fry wriggling clearly and you could use some airline to suck/blow some water to dislodge eggs from rock but theres really no need to hatch. The fry are still not free swimming for several more days after hatching and you will need the smallest brine shrimp or vinegar eels.
