andrew8710
Hey, Im after some ideas on possible hosts that I can use to try and breed my colony of multipunctatus. I was going to try venustus but my male killed all his females. I'd be looking at keeping them in a 4ft tank. Thanx Andrew

Of course I've never actually kept Cuckoos.
TropheusQueen
You need to have a fish that has relatively the same size eggs as the multis and are not that smart the smarter they are the quicker they cotton onto what is happening and will not allow anything to occur again. We have used acei with great success and continue to do so, elonagtus for a short while but these guys were smart!!!!
Josh
I have bred mine with peacocks. I have tried with flavus and maingano with no luck Josh
andrew8710
Thanx everyone. I was thinking about trying to use a colony of perlmutts? Anybody used these or heard of them being used successfully?
DFishkeeper
Hi Andrew, I have never had consistent success with any mbuna, they seem to be far more effective at keeping the cuckoos away (I once saw my pindani breeding halfway up the tank wall while the cuckoos were circling franctically under them on the tank bottom). My most consistent success has been with non-mbuna, in particular Blue Dolphins and Protomelas taenialatus "Fire Blue". Cheers, Doug
hobcas
I know two breeders of multipunctatus and both, as Doug suggested, successfully use Blue Dolphins as the host.
matt_frontosa
Hi Guys if you all want to breed some Cockoos I have been told to use Astatotilapia calliptera as they breed more regularly and are more stupid to react to the cuckoos stealing there eggs. Good Luck
