exaturbo
hi all. i have a 5x2x2 tank that was home to a pair of happily breeding brasiliensis, and a medium sized pleco. about two months ago, the female, got sick and died. i need some advice on how i might be able to introduce a suitable female into the tank ? will my large male accept another fish ? they had several batches of fry, but only managed to raise one single fish. all three remaining occupants of the tank get along fine, but i would like to try to get another female brasiliensis and start breeding again. the male is about 9 or 10" long, the offspring is abot 2" now, and the pleco is about 5 or 6" in length. if it is possible to introduce a female, where might i find one large enough for my near fully grown male ? thanks in advance, jason

PeteFromTassie
That's a real tough one... In my experience male Brasiliensis are nasty buggers! (I've kept two) Did he harrass the other female at all? Firstly, you'll need to find a female of reasonable size, but small enough so she can hide from him! If he is 10" then maybe ask your local trusted fish shop to order you a female about 4-5" so you can put caves and pipes in the tank that only she can fit in. She will take a few weeks to settle in and get randy with your male and if he's horny he might get aggro. Another option is dividing the tank for a few weeks to make sure she's okay. You could let them have monitored visits with one another, but I'd make sure you are there to oversee that they aren't fighting too hard. That's about as much as I can say really... Hope it's helpful! ;-) Good luck, they are stunning fish! Pete. P.S. I'd love to see some photos of your male! ;-)
nick069
i sold my 20cm female to trans, its still there, i think they want $80, im sure you can talk them down. My male got killed, so i let the large female go and got some smaller one, well not so small now they are 15cm. nick! That's a real tough one... In my experience male Brasiliensis are nasty buggers!
